Atlantic City Casinos Host Special Job Fair for Veterans

In Atlantic City, a majority of the employment positions available deal with the casino industry in some form or fashion. The nine operating casinos in the region have hotels, restaurants, bars, gaming floors, pool areas, and so much more on offer. Thousands of employees are needed across the city to help with the gaming industry. This week, it was announced that the American Legion and the New Jersey Casino Control Commission recently came together to host a job fair for veterans.

Right now, as many as 1,800 employment positions are up for grabs in Atlantic City. The range of employment is vast, from housekeeping needs to security positions and more. Veterans attending the job fair were able to apply for positions they were interested in.

Job Fair Details

More than one third of the positions available in Atlantic City are for the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The property hosted its own job fair earlier this week in an attempt to fill open positions. The process to find employment in Atlantic City via the job fairs is quite simple. People can come out and get the information for a position, then apply for the job online.

The most recent veteran’s job fair was the fourth annual running of the event. The city see’s the fair as a way to help those who dedicated their lives to service the country. During the event, each casino had a stable setup and provided information on job openings. Nonprofit organizations were also onsite to help. This included OCEAN Inc., which helps residents who are low to moderate-income.

Attendance at the fair was good, with some people showing up before it started. Veteran unemployment in the United States is around 5% right now. This is a nice improvement from a few years ago, but still, something to work on. Atlantic City officials hope that hosting this fair each year will help veterans to find gainful employment.

Getting Back to Normal

As the job fair takes place, casinos in Atlantic City are trying to get back to normal. Back in March 2020, the casinos shut down like gaming venues across the United States as the COVID-19 pandemic became an issue. It would be a few months before AC casinos were up and running again and that was on a limited basis.

Today, the casinos are operational at a lower capacity with protocols still in place to protect employees and residents from the virus. Eventually, the city hopes to be back at 100% but that will depend on how the virus changes.

Right now, most adults in the United States are focusing on getting vaccinated. If everyone is willing to do so, then hopefully there will be a decrease in the number of positive cases and things can get back to normal. Casinos around the US are looking into hiring more individuals as they prepare to get back to 100% capacity.

Many people who were furloughed and unable to find new employment will get the chance to come back once positions open up due to higher tourism levels.
